I was born in 1946 in Uttar Pradesh, in an environment steeped in literature, spirituality, and simplicity. While abundance has always been part of my life, it never fascinated me. What mattered to me was purpose.
1,380 water bodies comprising of 824 check dams and 555 ponds have been constructed across India. Over 38 billion litres of water is harvested annually, impacting 1,284 villages. This has transformed the lives of 18 lakh under-privileged people in rural communities. The villagers are earning a net income of Rs. 3475 crores year after year because of this work, and will continue to do so, for generations to come.
Latest UpdatesAt Aakar, we believe in community participation and ownership. 70% of the cost of these projects is supported by donors, while 30% is contributed by the villagers, either in cash or kind. This ensures dignity, responsibility, and long-term sustainability.
Beyond her work in water conservation, Amla Ruia has devoted years of her life, sharing our spiritual wisdom, translating sacred texts and saintly teachings into simple, poetic reflections for modern life.
